Thank You!

The members of the Nelson ILP Land Society wish to thank everyone who has donated money and contributed their time and labour to our ongoing renovation project.

We have received £18,000 from donations, fund raising and grants.

This has enabled us carry out a major part of the renovation work including a new floor, the rebuilding of the veranda, external and internal painting, a new kitchen and an extension with indoor toilet facilities for the less able, baby changing facilities and a library.

We need to raise a further £3.000 to replace the roof and improve access for the less able. We appreciate that times are difficult and government cuts will exasperate this situation. However, any donations, no matter how small will be welcome and appreciated.

Clarion House Centenary

The Nelson Clarion House was built in 1912, therefore 2012 will be our centenary year.

We are hoping to to organise several events involving our customers, and various local organisations. The main focus for our celebrations will be the weekend of  Saturday 11 August 2012 to Sunday 12 August 2012.

Events will include a walk from the former Nelson ILP Socialist Institute to the Clarion House, Clarion Choir's, and cycling events. everyone is welcome to participate. Download a Poster (PDF 1.8MB)
Download information about the weekend (PDF 12KB)

If you feel like you would like to make a donation to offset the cost, it will be greatly appreciated.

Please make cheques payable to Nelson ILP Land Society Ltd.

All donations should be sent to our Secretary: Carol Hopkins, 47 Bradshaw Street, Nelson, Lancashire, BB9 9BW.

Quick Guide

The Clarion is situated in its own grounds within the "Hidden Valley" and is surrounded by a myriad of public footpaths. It is close to the "Pendle Way" and the "Two Roses Way". We have also devised our own 40K walk The Clarion House Way which visits the Nelson Clarion House and the two former Clarion Houses at Burnley and Colne.

We are deep in the heart of "Pendle Witch Country". Roughlee, Barley, Read and the Historic towns of Colne, Clitheroe and Whalley are within walking distance.

There is a magnificent view to the North.
Celebrated Pendle Hill is to the immediate North West, Blacko Tower and Weets Hill to the North East and a few miles to the East, Boulswourth Hill towers over the Pennine Way.

Within the grounds children can play under the watchful eye of their parents. There are lawned areas and an adventure playground. We will even lend you a bat and ball free of charge.

Part of the grounds have been set aside for wildlife and a pond as been dug to develop this potential.

A survey of the flora was carried out in 2004 and the results are published on this website.

The Nelson Clarion House is open every Sunday and some public holidays and for special events (please  check by email). We are usually open by 10.30 a.m. and close by 5.00 p.m. (times can vary a little depending on weather conditions).

Our parking facilities are limited but there is good parking close by at Barley.

A bus service operates from nearby towns download timetable.
